BVN Band Update: Summer is Here!

2023-2025 was an AMAZING year in the Band! Room 237, Spain, and SO much wonderful music, all year!! We are so very proud of the student growth and performances.

Dear Mustang Band Booster Club (MBB) Members,
It’s been a phenomenal year for our music program, and we couldn’t be prouder of our talented students and dedicated teachers. We need your help to finish strong and set ourselves up for even greater success next year.
The Mustang Band Booster Club is seeking fresh faces to join our Board and leadership team. We have open positions for:
- Secretary
- WebMaster
- At-Large Members
These roles are perfect for freshman or sophom*ore parents (soon to be sophom*ore and junior parents!) looking to get more involved. They are not overly time-consuming and offer a chance to stay informed and directly contribute to the band’s continued excellence.
There is also an opening for co-Treasurer (aka Treasurer in Training) for next year.

SUMMER MUSIC OPPORTUNITIES:
Over the summer, there are many PHENOMENAL Music Camps. We HIGHLY Encourage ALL band students to consider these. Summer Camps present unique and powerful opportunities to enhance musicianship and build connections with other AMAZING young people, just like our band students. Personal story from Freeman: my eye doctor is a close college marching band friend… I introduced him to his wife when we were in band together… his wife was a good friend from, you guessed it, summer music camps! Musicians are often some of the best people and close friends… camps are great ways to build life-long connections to other great people!!
A small sampling of phenomenal camps:
- KU’s Midwestern Music Camp is one of the longest running and strongest musical experiences in the country!
- The High Plains Band Camp at Fort Hays State University iswonderful!
- KSU has launched a series of summer music clinics over the last decade which are well done.
- The CROWN JEWEL of Summer Music Camps is the Music For All Summer Symposium – held in Muncie, IN. HIGHLY recommended. More expensive than some others but a phenomenal experience.
- UMKC will offer a series of more specific camps: Jazz Camps, Percussion Camps, Sax Camps, etc. Well worth a look!!
- The KC Trombone Workshop is AMAZING!!!! HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for all of our trombone students.
- The Kansas City Jazz Academy – Instrumental Combo Camp at the Gem Theatre/American Jazz Museum!
- And more… just spend a few minutes google searching and you can find MANY incredible camp opportunities.
Since Covid – we have not had many students attend summer camps. We hope to see this start to change this summer – In addition to the phenomenal experience that students will have at the camps – students who attend these camps come back with enhanced musicianship that ripples across our program, enhancing the quality of experience for everyone.
