Telehealth's triumph! A study by Kaiser Permanente reveals that the surge in telemedicine during the pandemic effectively meets patient needs without compromising safety. Analyzing over 1.5 million adult patients, the study compares primary care telemedicine (video and phone) with in-person visits. Results show telemedicine usage at 50.8%, with video at 20% and phone at 31.3%. Notably, medication prescriptions are lower in telemedicine (video 38.4%, phone 34.6%) than in-person visits (46.8%). Follow-up appointments within seven days are more frequent in telemedicine (video 6.2%, phone 7.6%) than in-person visits (1.3%). A recent report from Healthcare IT News sheds light the administrative impact of conducting both telehealth and in-person visits on the same day. According to the report, conducting virtual patient visits does not necessarily add significantly to a healthcare providers workload. But, when conducting telehealth visits on the same days as in-person patient appointments, healthcare providers saw a 6% increase in time spent on documentation tasks and EHR duties. "Greater EHR time may be due to increased multitasking during telemedicine visits, as PCPs simultaneously engage with patients and the EHR during telemedicine visits in ways that are not possible in person," writes Healthcare IT News. “This multitasking may feel more efficient and therefore may not register as burdensome.” Be sure to read the full report at: https://lnkd.in/gJdUd8fK#Telehealth #EHR #HealthcareWorkloads

Healthcare’s digital transformation! Telemedicine is just the tip of the iceberg. The healthcare industry is moving towards new care models - models like hospital-at-home and remote patient monitoring services provide patients with access to healthcare portals through the internet. A recent hearing by the House Subcommittee suggested changing the definition of "site of care" to the location of the provider rather than the patient. This change would simplify the logistical hoops that healthcare providers jump through for what is effectively an arbitrary decision. #telehealth #digitalhealth #healthcaretransformation
