Albert-Tanchor WHEN THEY KICK "I don't know what to do with that girl," remarked an officc manager of a small company the otherndes the "I only hate to way let out.

her go "The trouble with her is that she just won't accept any kind of criticism. If I send back letter to be done over, she makes me feel like a heel for asking her to do it. Yet we can't have sloppy letters going out. "She takes it as a personal insult if I correct her and she spreads her views all through the office. If she'd only get wise to herself it would spare me the pain of letting her go and would be the making of her, as well." Many of us will feel that this girl has quite a lot to learn.

She could certainly learn from several executives have met. They spend part of each day going over complaints that come in. They watch them closely because they are warning signs. They may indicate poor service, which needs improving; they may indicate defects in the product. They may suggest new sales methods.

And they have a similar meaning to us, as individuals. Of course, it isn't pleasant to be a recipient of a complaint. We feel hurt, humiliated. We want to strike back perhaps-or go in a corner and sulk. Neither of these reactions does us much good.

What will help us is ton use the same method an executive does when he studies his complaints. we'll regard them as a challenge--to improve our work or attitude; to increase our value; to work for a bigger opportunity. That's what complaints can mean--if we want them to. What does that employer want to know about you? Our booklet, "Secrets of Answering a Help Wanted Ad" tells how to write the kind of letters that interest employers and win interviews.
