If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts — like theirhair sprayandelectric toothbrush. We asked actor Juliette Lewis, who was recently part of Warby Parker’s summer-2024-collection campaign, about the grounding essential oils, revelatory flats, and books she can’t live without.

I’m really sensitive to even the fanciest lines of stuff. They all have these scents that irritate me. I’m kind of a naturalist with ingredients, and I like that Dr. Sturm uses really pure ingredients. There aren’t any heavy perfumes. I picked this up at the health-food store and loved it for my hair. It feels fuller and healthy and all the things I want from a shampoo.

I love this speaker. Everyone who knows me knows I carry music with me. I travel with it and use it in my hotel room. I have it sitting with me in the makeup trailer when I’m getting into character. I listen to music I think my characters would listen to. It’s just intuitive. For Cape Fear, I listened to all this ’50s love and longing music. It felt very juvenile. For Natural Born Killers, I listened to “Voodoo Child,” by Jimi Hendrix, and the bands Slight Return and Killing Floor obsessively every day for a month and a half. I felt like that was Mallory Knox. Recently, doing Yellowjackets, I had an old ’90s playlist that was really fun. Everything from Jane’s Addiction and the song “Would?” by Alice in Chains to even Crystal Castles.

I’ve turned into one of these ladies who smells like lavender and a spa. I use essential oils as a pick-me-up in my day. I keep them in my car, and again — people who know me at work know I have five different essential oils by my chair. I came across them while I was working long hours in the heat and I was losing my focus. This script supervisor said, “Here, try these.” It was lemongrass essential oils. It was a very shortcut way to clear my head and refocus. I don’t know the technology of it; I just know it works for me in bringing me back to the present. I used to be dismissive of stuff like this, but I enjoy having these little hacks for my daily-living tool kit.

I don’t know if anybody knows of these, but these are a revelation of a shoe because they’re washable. Anything you can wash is exciting. Also, I believe they’re made out of recycled materials that are good for the environment. They feel like ballet slippers. I love how lightweight they are, and they don’t make your feet sweat.

I live in the mountains about an hour and a half away from L.A., and you have to have a hiking shoe out here. I’m an avid hiker. I bought mine at the local store, and I love them. I did a whole hiking retreat where we did eight to ten miles a day, and these didn’t scrunch my toes. I have the high-top ones and like the ankle support. I think it’s the underdog brand compared to Salomon or Merrell, but I like these.

Who doesn’t love Isabel Marant? I just happened to go in the store and saw this. It was a radical line. The fabric is not quite velvet but maybe close to carpet. But anyway, I love it. It’s colorful and fun. It’s my happy tote bag. It’s big, so I can put lots of things in it when I travel.

I wanted to give a shout-out to this program I’ve been in and using for years. It has tools for living, staying present, and making your head less noisy. It’s just a really good book, and it is very grounding. It goes with me wherever I go now.

I got this over New Year’s. I love the calendar flipping over to a new beginning. I actually came across it while Googling, and it caught my eye. I was like, Oh my God, a pretty orange book that says Manifest? Okay. It’s funny because I ended up really liking it. I’ve heard people talk about the concepts of manifesting, or the four agreements, or laws of attraction. I knew dumb versions of all these little things. I picked up this book, and it’s so easy to read. There are visualizing exercises, and it makes what I’ve heard other people talk about really simple. There are simple tools for using a power we all possess but don’t use, which is our own ability to manifest things and getting rid of self-doubt. I think if we just re-up and focus in the present and move through our losses, you can work on manifesting. I feel like everyone should get this.

I live and breathe by this. I am one of these people with a hummingbird metabolism where I have to eat every couple hours to sustain energy. I learned this from living a while — and also working long hours. I prefer whey protein because they take all the bad stuff out and it’s easy for me to digest. It tastes good, too. I make little protein shakes. I could give you a whole recipe: this protein powder, almond milk, blueberries, and a banana in a Nutribullet and you’re set.

I live a pretty active lifestyle. Also, when I was with my band, I needed to refuel and replenish constantly. I’ve learned that electrolytes hydrate way more than if you drank two liters of water. They’re a shortcut and so good for you. If you’re around me long enough, I will try to feed you electrolytes. I think they are the solution to all things, because we walk around dehydrated and don’t even know it. I like that brand because you just put a little tablet in water and it dissolves. You don’t have to mess with the powders.

I didn’t want to bombard this feature with all the vitamins I take, so I chose one. L-tryptophan is an amino acid. It’s what you find in turkey when people feel tired after eating a lot of it during Thanksgiving. It’s a natural sleep aid and natural muscle relaxer, so it helps in the evening when you want to relax and fall asleep. I’m not a doctor — I must preface this. But I’ve done research and gone to naturopathic doctors who are very big on this. I’ve traveled and had high-pressure jobs leading to sleep problems, so I’ve researched every natural thing for sleep. This has been the one I really like a lot.

I like barely-there readers that look delicate. These are, like, a pale pink. I lose them and keep getting them because even though I annoyingly have to wear glasses when I’m reading, they don’t feel heavy. They have a softer touch. But like a lot of my personality, I live in extremes, so I like very solid, pronounced sunglasses. I like Warby’s Estrada glasses because they make me feel very grown-up and fabulous, even though I’m so grown up ’cause I’m 50.
