SSBR Fall Super Six (Final Rankings) (2024)

For the 2023 Spring high school season, we had a little fun here at SSBR and did a weekly rankings of the high school teams across every class called the “SSBR High School Dominant Dozen.” This Fall we are going to keep that going, but with only 2 classes playing, we are going to trim down the rankings to just 6 – hence the “Super Six.”

We will be looking at records, strength of schedule, and how each team is playingrelativeto their level.

Please remember that this is for fun.

6. Okarche Warriors, A (26-5); State Semifinalist

Prev Rank: NR

It is safe to say that Okarche may have been the most underrated team in either class this season. Check out the numbers of their 5 losses:

  • 3 were by one run
  • All 5 were to state tournament teams
  • 2 were to the #1 and #2 Class B teams (which they beat in rematches)

The Warriors wins included victories over Class B State Champ Ft Cobb-Broxton and Class B Runner Up Calumet. They also beat Class A top 10 teams AmPo, Tushka twice in Regionals, and they shutout #2 Wister in the State quarterfinals.

5. Oktaha Tigers, A (31-2); State Semifinalist

Prev Rank: 1

The team that was the top team all year didn’t get it done when it mattered the most. While Oktaha beat all but one team during the regular season, Districts, and Regionals, they lost to the one team who beat them before the State Tournament. After beating Preston 16-7 by scoring 14 runs in the last 2 innings, Silo stood in the Tiger’s way to the title game.

In a back and forth game, the Rebels plated 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning to eventually win 8-6.

The fact that Oktaha did not win a state title should not take away from the great season they had. The Tigers only lost to 1 team (twice to Silo) and they beat that team the first of 3 times they played this season. They averaged over 8 runs a game this year while giving up about 2 runs a game against one of the toughest schedules any team faced. Oktaha faced OSSAA ranked #2 through #9 teams, some more than once.

#4 Silo Rebels, A (24-7); State Runner Up

Prev Rank: #4

Coming into this Fall season, Silo had a lot going against them. Roster turnover leaving a young team and a new head coach meant it would be a “rebuilding” year. Little did anyone know that the rebuild would last about 1 month and the Rebels would be right back in familiar territory: the state title game.

After starting 10-6, the Rebels reeled off 14 straight wins before losing in the state title game to Rattan. The 1st game of that winning streak included their 1st win over Oktaha and the last game of the winning streak was a win over the Tigers as well.

3. Calumet Chieftans, B (30-2); State Runner Up

Prev Rank: #2

Outside of Oktaha, Calumet was the most consistent team this year. They were the last team in Class B to lose a game this year (a 1 run loss to Okarche on Sept 1).

Calumet really got it done on the mound this year. The Chieftans shut out over half of the teams they face this year (17 out of 32 games), with 10 of them coming in their last 16 games.

Not only was Calumet dominant on the mound, they were great at the plate as well. They were the highest scoring team out t over there averaging 11 runs a game.

2. Ft Cobb-Broxton, B (30-5); State Champion

Prev Rank: #5

Calumet may have been the most consistent team in Class B, but Ft Cobb-Broxton was the most impressive.

The schedule the Mustangs played showed that the Mustangs would be legitimate contenders in Class A. Their 5 losses all came against Class A teams (3 of them State Tournament teams). They also had wins over Class A top teams Okarche, AmPo (3x), Sterling (3x), and Dale. The Mustangs also won the prestigious Hydro-Eakly Labor Day Tournament.

Their regular season game vs Calumet got rained out, but when these 2 teams played in the State Championship, Ft Cobb-Broxton run ruled Calumet 10-0.

1. Rattan Rams, A (31-4); State Champion

Prev Rank: #3

Rattan did not get off to a good start results wise. They went 6-3 over their first 9 games with losses to AmPo, Oktaha, and Wister. The Rams lost their 4th game in an upset to Latta on August 24.

What Rattan did after that 4th loss is more than impressive. They won their next 24 games on their way to the Class A State Championship. During that 24 game winning streak, the Rams beat Red Oak, Wright City (3x), Tupelo (2x), Dale, Okarche, and Silo.

Rattan started that winning streak with a 13-1 win over Ft Cobb-Broxton which give them the edge in deciding who is the #1 team in the SSBR Super Six.
